Visit the Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae

In Rome, during the 16th century, tourists collected prints of ancient scenes and monuments. Eventually these collections were called the “Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae”, or the “Mirror of Roman Magnificence.”

This website presents the largest collection of these prints along with a series of “itineraries”, or guided tours, through the collection. The itineraries were prepared by experts in the field, and they are an accessible introduction to why the collection is important.

I worked on this project at the Digital Library Development Center at the University of Chicago. I did the front-end and back-end development and design for this project using PHP, XSLT, Adobe Flex and Flash.
